Library Catalogue is a searchable database of resources held at the Northern Territory Library and at the other 22 LINNET libraries in the Northern Territory.

Online databases

The library subscribes to several online commercial databases covering a variety of subject areas.  To access these go to Library Catalogue , select Log in - enter your barcode number as both the id and password and enter. You are now in your patron record. To select a database choose Online Databases - make a selection from the A-Z menu, eg, choose E for EbscoHost, I for Informit, etc. Contact PLS staff for assistance with access, search strategies, etc.

Commercial databases are only available to registered clients of the Parliamentary Library Service however links are also provided to free databases, eg, ABS.




Australian Bureau of Statistics 

  • ABS is an information service providing you with the ABS full standard product range to your desktop which includes all ABS publications from 1998 onwards in Adobe Acrobat format (pdf); over 2,000 spreadsheets containing economic and social time-series data; 1996 and 2001 Census data; and many other resources.

Australian Government and Politics Database
  • The Australian Government and Politics Database has been created by researchers at the University of Western Australia and is intended for anyone who wants to find out general information about Australian government and politics.

British Library Direct
  • British Library Direct is a multi-disciplinary database containing 20,000 journals and focusses predominantly on the subjects of science, technology and medicine. Bibliographic details and abstracts for each article are free. Send the bibliographic details of any required articles to the PLS.

    Document delivery services are only available to registered clients of the Parliamentary Library Service.

Centralian Advocate Index
  • The Centralian Advocate Index is only an index and does not provide the full text articles.
  • The index is produced by the Alice Springs Public Library.
  • At present articles are indexed from 24th May 1947 to September 2000. This is an ongoing project.

EbscoHost databases
  • ANZ Reference Centre
    Combines Australia and New Zealand specific magazines, newspapers & newswires, reference books, and company information to create the largest collection of regional full text content available to schools, public libraries, and academic institutions. The NT News is available full text from November 2000 until the present and the Centralian Advocate is available full text from February 2004 until the present.
  • Academic Search Premier
    Provides full text for nearly 4,600 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975. This database is updated on a daily basis.
  • MasterFILE Premier
    Provides full text for nearly 1,960 periodicals covering nearly all subjects including general reference, business, health, and much more.
  • Other EbscoHost databases include Clinical Pharmacology, Health Source – Consumer Edition & Nursing/Academic Edition and Columbia Granger’s Poetry Database.

    EbscoHost databases are only available to registered clients of the Parliamentary Library Service.

Informit Databases
  • The Informit Databases are the authoritative Australian databases. There are over 80 databases that cover a wide range of topics that include indexing architecture, Asian resources, business and management, education and research, environment, health (medicine), history and heritage, hospitality and tourism, indigenous peoples, law, science and technology, social sciences and community issues, and sports.
  • Australian Public Affairs Full Text (APA-FT) is an indexing and full text database that provides Internet access to the scanned images of journal articles from published material on the social sciences and humanities.
  • AGIS Plus Text is an indexing and full text database based on 'AGIS', the Attorney-General's Information Service*, which is produced by the AGIS Section of the Lionel Murphy Library, Attorney-General's Department, Canberra.
  • Meditext is an indexing and full text database based on the Australasian Medical Index (AMI), which is produced by the National Library of Australia.

    Informit databases are only available to registered clients of the Parliamentary Library Service.

SmartBIX (ABIX - Australian Business Intelligence)

  • SmartBIX (Australian Business Intelligence - ABIX)  - is a useful business index, and includes indexing of the Northern Territory News, the Sunday Territorian and Centralian Advocate. This product provides abstracts and article reference details but NOT full text. Indexing of NT Newspapers on ABIX began in December 1997.

    SmartBIX is only available to registered clients of the Parliamentary Library Service.

 

News Store

  • News Store is the online archive of Fairfax articles dating back to 1990, company announcements from the Australian Stock Exchange and third party content from Asia Pulse. News Store is free to search but you will need to pay to view the full text articles. Contact Parliamentary Library Service staff for a free copy of the articles.

NT Place Names Register
  • NT Place Names Register is hosted by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure. The Place Names Register contains only names approved by the Minister. However, the Committee has decided information on all place names in its database is to be made available, to assist researchers.

ParlInfo Web
  • ParlInfo Web provides access to ParlInfo, the Parliamentary Document Repository. ParlInfo contains over one million documents relating to the work of the Australian Parliament.

PictureNT
  • Historical and contemporary photographs held by the Northern Territory Library can now be searched on PictureNT.  This latest online resource replaces Territory Images and has many new features, including improved ease of use and more information about our photographs.
  • The photos cover a broad range of subjects relating to the Terriotry and its people, and many of the images date bck to the early day of the NT.

Online Newspapers and Journals

Northern Territory Government Publications
  • The Library holds a complete collection of Northern Territory Government publications including budget papers, gazettes and annual reports and the major tabled papers.

Indexing of newspapers
  • A clipping service has been maintained since 1990 - 2002 for Members of Parliament (Legislative Assembly) and their staff. The service provides easy access to articles from the Northern Territory News and the Sunday Territorian.

Research Papers
  • Eighteen Research Papers were produced from April 1995 to June 1997. Two Research Papers were produced between 2000 and 2001 and are available online.  2006/2007 papers are available online
